This Privacy Policy explains how RainCheck SG ("the app", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application. RainCheck SG is a navigation app that helps people in Singapore find the driest public-transport routes to their destination. We built the app to be useful while collecting as little personal information as possible.
By using RainCheck SG, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.
1. Information We Collect
Location information
With your permission, the app accesses your device's precise location (GPS). Your location is used on your device to calculate routes, show your position on the map, and compute a local "Shelter Index". To generate routes and weather forecasts, coordinates may be sent to the third-party services listed in Section 4 (such as Singapore's OneMap and the National Environment Agency). We do not store your location history on our own servers, and the app does not require you to create an account. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, though this will limit the app's core functionality.
Diagnostic and crash data
We use Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to detect and fix crashes and stability issues. When the app crashes, Crashlytics may automatically collect diagnostic information such as your device model, operating system version, app version, the state of the app at the time of the crash, and a crash log. This information is used solely to improve the reliability of the app.
Advertising data
The app displays advertisements through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob and its partners may collect information such as your device's advertising identifier, general (approximate) location, IP address, and ad-interaction data. This data is handled under Google's advertising policies. You can limit ad personalization or reset your advertising identifier in your device settings.
On-device preferences
The app stores your settings and preferences (for example, recent searches or display options) locally on your device using standard storage. This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
Remote configuration
We use Firebase Remote Config to adjust app features and settings remotely. This service delivers configuration values to the app and does not collect personal information from you.
2. How We Use Information
- To calculate and display public-transport routes and covered-walkway ("dry") coverage.
- To provide live weather forecasts and a location-based Shelter Index.
- To show your position and route on the map.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the app's stability and performance.
- To display advertising that helps keep the app free.
3. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. Information is only shared with the third-party service providers described below, and only to the extent needed to make the app work. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.

5. Data Retention
We do not maintain personal profiles or accounts. Crash and diagnostic data collected by Firebase is retained by Google in accordance with its retention practices. Preferences stored on your device remain until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
6. Children's Privacy
RainCheck SG is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information handled through the app, and network requests to third-party services are made over secure connections. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Choices
- Location: You can grant or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
- Advertising: You can reset your advertising identifier or opt out of ad personalization in your device settings.
- Crash reporting: Uninstalling the app stops all further data collection.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
